Pre-Production

In this phase of the filmmaking process we use the script as a roadmap to collectively journey into storytelling which we engage as ceremony for expanding awareness. An excellent pre-production plan (production notebook) means that there are few(er) surprises on set and every necessary piece of information is right at hand. This content is an offering for introductory and seasoned filmmakers alike to support a robust bf* centered pre-production process AND deep dives for those interested in engaging the Black Feminist Film School methodology for film Pre-Production on a deeper ceremonial level or for your project.

The Script

In Black Feminist Film School Pre-Production: The Script participants will work with Black Feminist scripts and learn to break them down in order to communicate and pull out the necessary elements for the production notebook. The bf* script breakdown is more expansive than the traditional approach.

Production NOTEBOOK

The tools and documents that enable you to plan and discuss your project effectively with experienced filmmakers and be prepared for excellence on set can be found in the production notebook. This is the shared text (maybe sacred text) for the crew where everyone can access the information relevant to their own role.

Pre-Production: Roles

With the production notebook, everyone can take on their role. Know what each department and crew member does with notebook and what they have to add throughout the production. Black Panther had 3,000+ in the cast & crew Daughters of the Dust had 100. To be prepared for that we start here - roles.
