Distribution & Screening
This phase is all about sharing the film with your audiences of choice. Some of our work is just for us or particular communities of accountability others are for broader film festivals and worldwide theatrical releases. We introduce you to the standard processes of distribution and hosting screenings as well as non-traditional screening and distribution techniques. The fact that you made a film is a huge accomplishment and there are ways to leverage that experience regardless of the complexity or polish of what you have created. We cover that and more in this section.
Ritual Screening
Ritual Screening is an invitation into the theater as ritual space. Explore this form created by Sangodare that pulls together Black church tradition, African diasporic Earth-based tradition and film screening. We’ll explore multi-sensory and immersive media experiences and create our own.
Transmedia
In the Transmedia class participants will explore the ways bf* have transgressed & transcended the film form. Black feminists have been telling stories across multiple platforms since always from the drum to novels, dance, operas, VR, websites, video games, sermons, song, poems and beyond. We will too.
Private & Academic
Private & Academic we will learn about leveraging our relationships with existing institutions to find not only venues for screening our films but also sources of support to create our films through collaborating with organizations where we find alignment with the subject matter and spirit of our films.
